Back to the story...
Choi, our boss, after a few drinks and dinner wanted to go to a singing room, aka Karaoke. Now...up until now I'd been hearing how this is popular among Koreans. I guess I had a little hard time believing this, as I haven't ever seen any drunkards lounging around on every other corner belting out old-fashioned and often pretty corny love songs. This was a regular spectical for all to see in the Phiilippines. Ah, well, after listening to both the Korean staff and the 2 other westerner teachers belting them out last night, my initial impression has once more been shattered to bits. I sat back and chimed in every once in a while if I knew any of the songs, but mostly took things in, feeling like I'd just stepped back to Laoag and/or any other local in the Philippines. The only difference between the Koreans and them, seemed to be that they at least do it in enclosed areas with semi-sound proof walls. Humph.....making a spectical is a little more of a private affair here, I guess. It's still something that will continue to make me chuckle and smile each time we go though. Must just be an Asian thing....
